Toyota Reviews

ToyotaToyota Brief History:

Just the name Toyota makes one think about quality automobiles. Toyota has been selling vehicles in the U.S. market for over 50 years and their reputation for quality was earned by building vehicles that last. I have talked to numerous Toyota owners that boast about owning a Toyota that served them for well over 100,000 miles and a few that had their vehicles for over 300,000 miles.

Toyota is a Japanese car line founded by Kiichiro Toyoda and the first prototype was unveiled in 1935 which formed the Toyota Motor Corporation. That first model was named the A1 and was the just the beginning of the expanded line of motor vehicles that included passenger cars and a pickup truck. By the end of the 1940’s Toyota had built more than 100,000 vehicles.

Toyota entered the U.S. market in the late 50’s by offering the Toyota Crown which was the very first Japanese car sold in the United States. In the 1960’s Toyota continued to expand their line of Japanese built automobiles and launched the Corolla which is still in their line-up today. Toyota sold 1,000,000 vehicles in the 1960s and 10 million vehicles in the 1970s. Toyota expanded their product line even further during the 1980s with the Camry, MR2 and the 4Runner SUV.

Toyota was the Japanese car company that set the bar high and backed it up with their QDR (quality, reliability and dependability).

Toyota Automobile Reviews

Regular Car Guy opinion: Overall I think Toyota is a great car manufacturer and has built top quality vehicles for many years. However, I am starting to wonder if the company is starting to loose some of their commitment to quality in the North American market and becoming all about the profit like most car manufacturers. The recent recalls are not only making me wonder, but many others are doing the same.

The number of recalls that Toyota has had recently was not really out of line or unrealistic when you compare them with the rest of the automotive industry in fact it was quite low, but I think the loyal Toyota owner is starting to look a little closer before the plunk down their hard earned money to buy a Toyota.

I still believe Toyota builds a top quality vehicle, but I think the playing field is starting to level between Toyota and some of the American car makers.
